Basic Information About Endoluminal Gastroplication, The Surgery For Acid Reflux

Even though acid reflux normally starts off with mild symptoms, it does not mean that it cannot go worse from there. You don’t have to worry so much though because there is a certain surgery that is guaranteed to cure acid reflux and it is called Endoluminal Gastroplication. Don’t immediately sign up for it though because there are certain things that you have to know about it first.

What this surgery for acid reflux does is make placations and pleats near the LES or the lower esophageal sphincter. Basically, it creates a structure at the lower portion of the esophageal sphincter. In this procedure, you don’t have to worry about being sedated too heavily. The reason is that the procedure is not really characterized as a major operation which means that probably a local anesthesia will do.

Even though it is simpler and smaller than other surgeries, it does not mean that it comes without any precautions. Part of this precaution is staying away from the foods and drinks that you are prohibited from days after the surgery. You have to allow your stomach to heal which is why drinking alcoholic drinks and acidic foods should still be avoided.

You should not also expect your doctor to order the surgery for you once you are confirmed to have acid reflux disease. This is because you still have to meet other criteria before you can become qualified for the surgery. You go to have faith in your doctor if he says that you are not ready for the procedure.. Don’t even push the idea if your doctor is already saying no.

If you are up for this surgery on the other hand, you have to talk to your doctor about your anxieties. Although it is relatively simpler than other medical procedures, it is normal to feel a little bit anxious about it.

After the surgery, you have to be prepared to make lifestyle changes so that you won’t have to go through the surgery again any time soon. Even if the Endoluminal Gastroplication is the magic bullet for acid reflux, it does not mean that you are immune to the disease for the rest of your life.
